Is the use of repellents enough to protect against diseases?
NO
To be well protected against diseases, there are several additional, indispensable methods of protection:
1/ Vaccines or treatments :
For certain diseases, there are vaccines (yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, tick-borne meningoencephalitis, etc.) or preventive treatments such as for malaria. These should be taken care of before departure.
2/ Personal protection against bites :
Protecting yourself against insect bites remains the best way to avoid contracting a disease. To do this, there are all sorts of methods that complement each other. Good habits: dress in ample clothing, with long sleeves and pale colours; do not go outside at peak activity times, etc. Using repellents: repellents for the body, repellents for fabric, and insecticides for your environment (mosquito coils, diffusers etc.).
3/ Fighting the vectors :
To avoid any risk of diseases, the fight against insect proliferation is fundamental. This consists of eliminating everything that promotes the development of these insects; for example, with regard to mosquitoes: elimination of larval development sites (places where water can stagnate, such as flower pot dishes, tyres, etc.).
