Gifrer was established in the Pharmaceutical Market in 1912 when the chemical engineer Paul-Louis Barbezat and the Gignoux brothers, manufacturers of oxygenated water and vegetable extracts, purchased a factory and installed their equipment there. Gifrer Barbezat offered a wide range of chemical and pharmaceutical products, from ether and oxygenated water to vegetable extracts, barium sulphate and alumina. The company would subsequently give up its chemical activity to concentrate on its main vocation as a pharmaceutical laboratory.
In 1981, the laboratory develops the sterile unit-dose, which meets a real success thanks to its practicality, its economic aspect and the reduction of the risk of microbial contamination.
